Commercial Sheep

We began importing Cheviot Mule ewes in 2014, these were the first to be brought into N. Ireland. We wanted to try and find a maternal based sheep breed, capable of breeding us more than just a fat lamb, we wanted to breed a ewe lamb, one that we would be proud to produce and put our name on.

We now have around 600 Cheviot Mules ewes on the farm, some home bred and the rest imported from Scotland. These are mainly private purchases from a few farms where we select ewes from each year as we know what they are doing for us.

Finding the Suffolk Tup is, or at least was, the hard bit - we now breed our own. The need to breed our own was driven by the fact that we found it so hard to find tups to please us. Tight skins, good colours, no rough bone and silky hair with a bright eye, were all desirable traits we needed, to breed the type of gimmer that we were after.

We find the Cheviot Mule ewe to be extremely capable, very milky, great mothers, and any amount of lambs.

Our ewe lambs are all retained and sold as gimmers at our annual on-farm sale we started in 2019. This years Sale takes place on Wednesday 31st July at 7pm.

All Gimmers sold are ENZO and TOXO vaccinated so they can go straight to work. Grass fed, no cincentrate is fed to the commercial gimmers.

Don’t Miss our 2024 on Farm Sheep Sale
